Maryann learned to cook since she was little, since her parents spent the day working. Born in Singapore, after finishing high school she traveled to Melbourne, Australia, to study cooking professionally. For his part, Mario was always connected to the world of gastronomy, since his family had a banquet business. And although he had intentions of studying agronomy or veterinary medicine, his father - who was studying cooking at the Sor Juana Cloister - convinced him to give gastronomy a chance.
Fate brought them together in a Mexican restaurant in Singapore. They worked together for just over three years, until they decided to travel to Mexico and bring their own project to life. “During the period we were in Asia there was always Maryann's concern for Mexico and for me, spending ten years in Asia was very comfortable, but she also had that desire to do something of our own and the idea was always to make Singaporean food.”
They opened MAKAN and became Best new Chefs 2021 in Mexico.
